Ever since Doosan Infracore started making diesel engines in 1958, the business has continued to build its R&D capacities to stay at the forefront of the industry within Korea. During 1975, Doosan started mass producing diesel engines at its very first large-scale plant. Within ten years the company's production technology had advanced to the point that production of its very own diesel engine model was possible. Doosan's leadership position in the industry was secured. In 1995 Doosan made its very first low-emission diesel engine, followed by commercial vehicle CNG engines three years later. Since the year 2000, the company has developed technology for sophisticated common-rail engines, Tier 3-compliant engines and low-pressure natural gas engines. In order to comply with stringent Euro emission control standards, the company developed a low-emission, heavy-duty diesel engine model in the year 2007.
Doosan Infracore has facilities worldwide to manufacture 60 different kinds of engines, as well as materials and parts. Products include diesel engines and natural gas engines for forklifts, trucks, construction machinery, buses, ships, generators and more. Engines vary from 70 to 1,500 hp. Yearly output is currently 75,000 units.
The company is continually engaged in expanding R&D capabilities to expand to more markets and increase output. Demand for more stringent regulations governing engine emissions has led the company to build a compressed natural gas engine plant within the United States during 2008, and a joint project factory within Xuzhou, China. The plant in China could manufacture 50,000 diesel engines each year, with production scheduled to begin in the year 2011.
