During the year 1928 in La Clayette, France, the company Potain was established. Ever since then, Potain has been the global leader in tower crane production. They are responsible for over 100,000 cranes installed and sold all over the world. Currently, the company makes over 60 models from various production facilities inside China, France, Italy, Portugal and Germany. The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest ones in the Potain range. These cranes range from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes which are both higher and larger. These cranes range from 7.98 to 64 tons. In addition, these are the biggest special application cranes that are custom-designed. These units provide a reach capacity of 160 tons.



Several of the main innovations with the company consist of the LLC series of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The company's growing reputation has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are normally found on conventional construction sites, bridge building projects, power stations, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.



Manitowoc has 2 of their biggest manufacturing facilities within the USA. The Manitowoc manufacturing facility is situated within Wisconsin. In this state, both crawler cranes and the tower crane components are constructed within Pennsylvania inside the Shady Grove plant. Here both mobile cranes and boom trucks are manufactured. Regional offices are located within Mexico and in Brazil.
